Church Nursery Worker

Supervisor: Christian Education Elder Hours: 2.5 (Sunday 9:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m.)

Hourly rate: $20/ hr. ($50 per Sunday)

Qualifications:

  • Experience in caring for children between the ages of O to 4 years, with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Photo ID, Social Security number or Green Card
  • Satisfactory completion of background check
  • Satisfactory completion of CPR training for infants and children
  • Adherence to Calvary Presbyterian Church Child Protection Policy guidelines
  • Provide three (3) references

OBJECTIVE: To provide dependable, safe, secure, and nurturing care to the children while at Calvary Presbyterian Church, ages 0-4 years, in a clean environment.

Key Functions:

  • Responsible for providing age-appropriate care which includes feeding, changing diapers, escorting to the bathroom, maintaining a safe environment, putting children down for naps, holding or sitting with and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, play and prayer. Universal precautions should always be used while changing diapers or being in contact with body fluids.
  • Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers.
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to 9:15 AM Sunday School. Childcare hours include every Sunday 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. You are expected to work all Sundays even if it falls on a holiday. You will have the option of working other church events. The opportunity for extra work on days other than Sunday will be announced at least 4 weeks prior to the event. There will always be services during Holy Week, and one service on Christmas Eve.
  • You are to remain in the Nursery until the children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s registration form.
  • In the event of an emergency notify the parent, by sending your partner into the worship space.
  • Straighten the room and clean all toys and surfaces before leaving. Used bed sheets will need to be placed in the dirty linen container and clean sheets are to be placed on the beds. Church staff or the volunteer will be responsible for laundering the sheets. All toys that have had contact with saliva will require cleaning. A sanitizing solution will be available to use in the nursery.
  • Attend an evaluation after a 90-day probationary period and thereafter annually.
  • Any issues or concerns related to your job responsibilities should be reported to the nursery coordinator.
  • Communicate in advance, by phone or email 1) any planned absences giving two (2) weeks notice, and 2) any unplanned absences at least two hours prior to the shift.

Termination Policy:

  • There will be a 90-day probationary period where either party may terminate employment without cause. Beyond this a two-week notice is expected.
  • Dependability is essential. Tardiness and excessive absences will result in termination of employment.
  • Immediate termination will occur in cases of intentional verbal, physical, or emotional abuse or neglect of any child, parent, or church member.
  • Termination may occur for failure to carry out job functions as described above or failure to comply with the Calvary Presbyterian Child Protection Policy.
