GROWING TOGETHER

05 Sep GROWING TOGETHER

            Greetings Calvary Family and Friends,

For those of you who attended church a few weeks ago, we had the blessing of participating in the dedication of baby James, as well as welcoming his parents, Kameron and Alyson, as new members into our church. If you’ve been a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church for years, or are relatively new, we are lucky to have you join us as we worship together each Sunday at 10am.

Following Pastor Ken’s sermon series on prayer, we have been looking into Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, where Paul outlined the ways that God equips us for our mission in the world. While for many of us, the analogy Paul uses about putting on armor and preparing for battle is not something we have personal experience with, the message in this analogy is applicable to everyone.

From Pastor Ken’s sermon a few weeks ago and Rev Dr. Bryan Mickle’s sermon this coming Sunday, I am reminded that, while we need to be properly equipped by the Holy Spirit, the main way we counter the adversary is to Stand firm in our faith and in prayer. Although we all face serious struggles in life, we can rely on the fact that God has already won the battle against sin and death, through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. I don’t have to worry about the big picture, as our sovereign God has everything under control. Our participation in this struggle can sometimes be joyful, even in the face of difficulty, because we can bring praise to God even in the midst of darkness.

Paul concludes his analogy of the Armor of God by instructing us to “Pray in the Spirit at all times, in every prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert and always persevere.”  (Ephesians 6:18).

            Blessings
