Celebrating God’s Faithfulness

27 Apr Celebrating God’s Faithfulness

Dear Friends,

The feather flags have been installed.  The side door has been repainted, along with the trim on all the windows that face North Kings Highway and School Street.  With the “Lift Every Voice and Sing” banner and the work that has been done in the flower beds and on the lawn, signs of renewal are everywhere.  And this weekend we will celebrate our 73rd birthday.  Our service will reflect on where we’ve come from and what that says about who we are and where we are going.  After church we will share lemonade and cupcakes on the front yard.  I hope the beautiful weather forecast holds, so that we can enjoy one another and God’s creation together.  I look forward to seeing you!

We have more good news to share and celebrate.  Dorothy Hernandez turns 95 years young this week and is still going strong.  Happy Birthday, Dorothy!  And on May 15, Barbara Allen and Margaret Yeboah will conclude their two-year term as Co-Moderators of the PC(USA) Presbyterian Women.  Their work would have been demanding and busy under the best of circumstances, but as with everything, Covid made their leadership job all the more challenging.  They have served our church and our denomination with their usual aplomb, however, and many have been blessed by their loving service.  Congratulations, ladies, on a job faithfully and graciously done.  (If you would like to attend PW’s Virtual Spring Gathering, please visit presbyterianwomenncp.org for more information.  Registration ends May 12th.)

One of the many ways the pandemic impacted us over the past year is that we were unable to observe and mark life transitions in person.  Grandparents were unable to hold new grandbabies.  Weddings, graduations, and birthday parties were postponed, downsized, held virtually, or cancelled.  We did the best we could, but often none of our options felt very satisfactory.  On Sunday, we will have an opportunity to say “goodbye” to the Millers in a way that we could not a few months ago.  They will be in town from their new home outside Philadelphia and plan to be with us in worship.  We will celebrate their years of friendship and ministry with Calvary as well as bless them in the new ministries they are already beginning.   Frank & Alice & cupcakes—need I say more?

God is good, friends, and we have been abundantly blessed—with God’s Spirit, with friendship, with kingdom work to do, with the ever-abiding presence and love of Jesus Christ.  I know my heart will be full when we gather at the Lord’s Table Sunday after hearing again the story of God’s faithfulness to us.  I hope you’ll come and meet me there.

Yours for the Kingdom,

Michelle
